Research examples on the internet

The challange when making publications is not in creating them but in making them look professional. Some publications look amazing while some plainly do not. At this stage you will have a good idea about what is required and may even have some ideas on how to go about doing it.

Before you get started designing you should look for example work. This will most likely be from the internet but it may be other students work or even printed media.

As you look for ideas you should note down in your sources table all of the examples which catch your eye. This could be for good reasons or it could be for bad. At the end of the day you want to avoid makeing the mistakes of the bad examples but follow the advice from the good.

Looking for professional touches

To get top marks you need to make your publications as professional as possible. You should look for any features or effects which you could encorpriate into your own work. For example if you were creating a sponsorship form you may include gift aid. Click here to see an example sponsorship form made by a student. Notice the use of giftaid which is present on most professional sponsorship forms.

Now look at the two professional examples (example 1, example 2). They share common features which can be seen on the comparison diagram. If you then compare the students version with the professional versions you can see that they share the same features. By finding professional touches and adding them to your own work you will be looking at the top marks.

Updating your sources table

When you add the examples to your sources table you should say what parts you would like to incorprate or which parts you wish to avoid. This helps the examiner get an idea of what you are trying to achive and also will remind you while you are creating it.

Look at the example sponorship forms. Then look at the students version. Do you notice the similarities?
